Sitting in my dad's kitchen now, haven't shaved for days, still in my hunting clothes, meditating on Biblical economy...
Many Christians tithe; ie they give 10% of their salary to the church where they belong. Far from all Christians tithe though, and excuse themselves by saying that it is an Old Testament thing. Wrongfully they say that "tithing belongs to the old covenant", the covenant that was made between God and the people of Israel during Moses' time and it is connected to the law that was given through this man of God. No! Tithing was practiced before the time of Moses (Gen 14:17-20) and is therefore practiced even after we have received a new and better covenant with God through Jesus (Heb 8:6).
In Hebrews seventh chapter we read this wonderful verse:
... and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.”
Heb 7:2
Melchizedek was according to the Bible, "priest of the God most high" and a prophetic forerunner to Jesus, God's Son. Melchizedek was also king of Salem, which means peace. Melchizedek was both king and priest. The Arabic and Jewish ancestor gave him "10% of everything."
Abraham gave 10% to the king! We give 10% to Jesus! He is our king, but also our priest (Heb 9:11)! Jesus is the King of righteousness and King of peace! He is worthy of us tithing! When you tithe to your church you are offering gifts of gratefulness to King Jesus!
When you have decided to tithe faithfully you will enter into blessings and protection that drives out all curses. Your finances will be blessed! The windows of heaven will open! God's overflow will be poured out over you! (Mal 3:8-11)
